Masking requirements remain in place
October 17, 2022 4:00 PM
We’ve had a strong start to the academic year, thanks to our collective commitment to keeping everyone healthy and safe.
After careful consultation with health experts and members of our community, Western’s masking requirement will continue until the end of fall term.
This means that medical-grade (ASTM level 3) masks will still be required indoors in instructional spaces such as classrooms, labs, and seminar rooms. One change is that leaders of research labs may make their own decisions about masking based on their specific lab environments.
This decision is driven by our desire to protect the in-person learning environment. We also want individuals who are at a greater risk to remain safe in class.
Safety ambassadors will monitor classrooms to help ensure COVID-19 protocols are being followed.
Masks remain readily available at all Western library locations. New mask dispensing units are also located outside some of Western’s largest classrooms.
If you’re sick, please stay home. Take the time to rest and recover before coming back to campus.
If you are unable to complete your remote learning or attend campus for an in-person assessment or final exam, please contact your home Faculty Academic Counselling Office to request academic consideration.
Thank you for continuing to protect yourself and others so that we can preserve Western’s vibrant on-campus experience.
Sincerely,
Florentine Strzelczyk
Provost & Vice-President (Academic)
