COVID-19 Vaccination Policy and Masking Requirements
April 21, 2022 1:00 PM
Together we have successfully faced another year of challenges brought on by COVID-19. One thing that has remained constant is that the pandemic has continued to shift. Many times, we have all responded and adjusted for the health and safety of our community.
As Ontario endures its sixth wave of the pandemic, Western has consulted with the Middlesex-London Health Unit, medical experts, our Joint Occupational Health & Safety committee and employee groups to determine the best health and safety protocols for the spring term and beyond.
Western will be continuing its vaccination policy for the spring and summer academic terms and it will be reviewed by September 1, 2022.
Masks will continue to be required indoors for the spring academic term (May and June). We will communicate a decision about masking for the summer term by mid-June.
Western will continue to ask students and employees to provide the University with proof of vaccination status – more information on this will be forthcoming. As such, we ask all students and employees to be prepared for this requirement to continue in the fall and stay up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, depending on eligibility.
We encourage everyone to get booster doses, which can be booked through Western’s vaccination centre.
We also continue to follow or exceed all ventilation requirements, recommendations and standards to ensure good filtration and air purification in our indoor spaces. Thank you to our Facilities Management team for their continued work across campus.
We are receiving some questions around health and safety requirements for in-person convocation ceremonies. We will communicate more information on this mid-May as we continue to monitor community health.
Decisions about the fall academic term will be made with the advice of public health, and other medical experts as more information becomes available throughout the summer months.
We appreciate all that you have done — and continue to do — in support of our community throughout these constantly changing times.
